Feeling lucky, Pedregon ready for Vegas

Las Vegas, prerace: Tony Pedregon and his Q Power Funny Car Team head to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the eighth annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals, the fifth of 23 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series events in 2007. Pedregon, a championship hopeful this year, finished fifth in the 2006 NHRA point standings.

As if Las Vegas weren’t loud and ostentatious enough in its own right, the city hosts the fire and fury of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series twice each year. Contested at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a crown jewel befitting this glitzy city, the event has become a pivotal stop on the tour. After extensive preseason testing here, race teams know the track well and often light up the scoreboard with performances one wouldn’t normally see at an elevation of 2,100 feet.

Pedregon is looking for a repeat performance of 2003 in which he won both the Spring and Fall races and clinched the Funny Car Championship at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“I love coming to the great city of Las Vegas and to this fantastic track. I have a history of winning here,” said Pedregon. “Dickie (crew chief, Venables) and the entire Q Power Team have worked hard to prepare us for Las Vegas. We’ll be ready to go rounds and put this Q Power Funny Car in the Winner’s Circle.

Venables likes the dry, Las Vegas air. “Our Q Power Funny Car tested well here this winter," he said. "We know consistent performance is key for a big win here in Las Vegas.”
