Antron Brown Matco Tools dragster

Pomona, Thursday: U.S. Army driver Antron Brown slid into the third positions entering Friday's single qualifying session.

Brown posted a 7.118-second pass at 187.31 mph aboard his U.S. Army World War II Suzuki in his only qualifying run of the day.

"That's a good start for us to the weekend," said the Indianapolis resident who remains alive for the 2004 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Pro Stock Bike world title. "We'll try to improve tomorrow."
