Connolly comes in 13th on tricky track
Connolly expected a higher starting berth but the car's best elapsed time was 6.654 seconds at 206.39 mph. A hot, slippery race track also contributed to Connolly's problems. His quickest time was 6.654 seconds at 206.39 mph. He was one of three drivers to run 6.654 seconds. Allen Johnson (No. 2, 6.626 seconds at 207.56 mph) will provide the opposition in Sunday's opening round. Johnson left the starting line first in the King Demon round and the advantage held up the rest of the way. Johnson, who went on to claim the top prize, turned on the win light in 6.712 seconds at 206.86 mph to a 6.700 at 206.39. Connolly had a good reaction time, .024-second, but Johnson had a near-perfect .007. Connolly enters the event second in NHRA POWERade Series with 576 points.
