Johnson Jr. and Skoal team begin crucial six-week stretch

Englishtown, prerace: Tommy Johnson Jr., and Skoal Racing begin a critical six week stretch this weekend that could make or break the season, starting with the ProCare Rx NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey.

Johnson is coming off of a win over Ashley Force in the opening run at the Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 NHRA Nationals two weekends ago in Joliet, IL before falling to eventual champion Gary Scelzi.

With the O’Reilly NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals having been re-scheduled from May 18-20 to July 6-8 due to on-track repairs, Johnson and the Skoal Racing Team are gearing up for six consecutive weekends of racing.

“I think the key to this year's Countdown to the Championship is having your performance peak at the right times," Johnson said. "With how our car ran in Joliet, I think we have the Skoal Racing Impala's performance where it needs to be to start this six in a row stretch off on the right foot.”

Johnson currently sits in 12th place in the 2007 NHRA POWERade Championship Point Standings, 48 points out of tenth in the Funny Car division. Johnson’s wife and Top Fuel driver Melanie Troxel stands in sixth place in the Top Fuel division.
