Schumacher grabs second straight pole

Englishtown, Saturday: U.S. Army NHRA driver Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher and Angelle Sampey both swiped number one starting positions here Saturday after the final day of qualifying for tomorrow's ProCare Rx SuperNationals at Raceway Park.

Schumacher, piloting his U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster, pocketed his fifth pole of the season based off of his track-record setting 4.455-second pass from Friday night.

For the second straight race, Schumacher finished atop the qualifying order. It's also his first career pole at Raceway Park.

"As I always say, qualifying well is important, but I'm more concerned with what happens on Sunday," said the Chicago-area resident. "It's time we go deep into race day."

Schumacher will confront 16th-place qualifier, David Grubnic, in the first round of final eliminations beginning at 11 a.m. EDT. It will be the first time the pair has met in 2007.

"We know what the Kalitta team is capable of," he related. "They got in the show in the last qualifying session, so I'm sure they're pumped up and hungry to get at us. We have to be prepared."

Schumacher will be looking to grab his second win of the year on Sunday, while making a move up the standings.

"Absolutely, no question about it," he said. "We need to have a successful race day here in New Jersey."
