Schumacher ends up 14th

Norwalk, Friday: Handling the controls of his U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster, Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher ended the first day of qualifying for the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals holding the 14th starting position here at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park.

Following his debut in Norwalk (it's the first time the NHRA tour has stopped in Northern Ohio) Schumacher was in a fair mood. The Chicago native posted a 4.633-second pass at 306.81 mph in the opening session, but he failed to get down the track at night with cooler temperatures.

"That's definitely not typical of us," said Schumacher about his second attempt under the lights. "I'm not sure what went on, but Alan Johnson (his crew chief) will get it figured out."

This weekend Schumacher will be seeking his second win of the year, while trying to strengthen his position in the Countdown to the Championship standings.

"Those are the goals that we have, for sure," he added.
