Antron Brown Matco Tools dragster

Denver, Friday: U.S. Army rider Antron Brown secured the ninth starting position. Brown, aboard his U.S. Army Suzuki, pocketed a 7.470-second run at 180.62 mph and barely missed joining teammate Angelle Sampey in the top half of the order.

"We definitely need to get up there with Angelle," he said. "And, of course, we need to have a good weekend, overall, in the points. I want into the Countdown."

Brown entered the weekend holding 11th-place in the standings, 22 points removed from eighth-place, which is the cut off for the Countdown.
