Bernstein hopes to continue to contribute quick reaction times to team's effort
Sonoma, prerace: With three races remaining before the countdown to eight field is set, the goal set by Kenny Bernstein and the Monster Energy/Lucas Oil Funny Car team is to go rounds at the Fram Autolite Nationals July 27-29. A three-time finalist at Infineon Raceway including a 2001 victory, Bernstein has notched career wins on nearly every racetrack on the NHRA circuit to date. This season, Bernstein and his team were runner-up at the inaugural event in “As a team, we’re pulling together to put forth a 110 percent effort,” said Bernstein. “As a driver, I’m trying to do my job, and if I can get a good reaction time, it can buy us a little extra at the finish line and in a close round of competition, could seal the win for us.” Arguably the closest competition in the history of the sport in the Funny Car category, winners who have celebrated in victory circle one week, have been on the outside of the top 16 the next Sunday. In fact no Funny Car driver has qualified for every event this year, and that’s a first in NHRA history. “Infineon Raceway is a fantastic facility,” continued Bernstein. “We love racing here. One thing is certain. The fans are witnessing one of the toughest-fought battles in Funny Car history, and there’s going to be a lot of teams fighting for a position in the countdown to eight.”
