Allen Johnson Team Mopar Dodge Avenger

Seattle, Saturday: Allen Johnson benefited from his teammate Richie Stevens' earlier pass in the single qualifying round held at the Schuck's Auto Supply NHRA Nationals to collect the No. 2 spot. Johnson posted a 6.671-second pass at 206.95 mph.

"We were behind Richie in that session, so Mark (Ingersoll, crew chief) was able to adjust my car a little bit after Richie's run and was able to step it up just a little.

"We'll take it. We have lane choice tomorrow and we're on our plan: lane choice, win first round, go to second round, and everything's gravy from there.

"I think the experience we have in our camp probably played in our hands a little bit," he said of having only one qualifying session. "We're usually really good right out of the box, so I think that will pay dividends for us."

Johnson faces Justin Humphreys in the opening round of eliminations.
