Antron Brown Matco Tools dragster

Sonoma, Friday: Antron Brown ended up eighth with a 7.042-second pass at 186.18 mph that just slid into the upper half of the field.

"We improved from the first session, but we still have a ways to go," he related. "We'll tune her up some more on Saturday and see if we can't get up there in the order with Angelle."

Brown, who was a finalist in Sonoma last year, would love to collect his first win of the season on race day.

"Oh man, you can't imagine how much I want that," he said. "I also want to get into the Countdown field at the same time. Being three points out of eighth-place, we're definitely knocking on the door. I have all the confidence in the world that my U.S. Army team will complete the mission."
