Pedregon in hotly contested Countdown to the Championship battle

Dallas, prerace: Tony Pedregon and his Q Horsepower Funny Car team are heading to Ennis, Texas, for this weekend’s O’Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex. It’s the 20th stop on the $50 million NHRA Drag Racing Series.

The NHRA POWERade Countdown to the Championship is a hotly contested battle in the Funny Car category. Pedregon is currently fifth in the standings and less than two rounds from the second place driver. Only 12 points separate the third through sixth place drivers.

“We are going down to the wire,” said Pedregon, the 2003 Funny Car champion. “We are going to focus on qualifying first, then aim to get back in the top four in the Countdown to the Championship. It should be a warm race, with temperatures forecasted to be in the 90’s. All the work we did the past few races to prepare us for hot tracks should pay off this weekend in Texas.”

With 34 national event wins and an NHRA Championship under his belt, Pedregon, is taking it all in stride and enjoying the journey.

“The pressure is always there,” said Pedregon. “I apply pressure on myself to perform and I expect the team to perform as well. I’ve been in contention for the Championship in the past and I believe it will give me a competitive edge. The rest we’ll do at the track. It should be a great show for all the fans coming to the Texas Motorplex.”
