Dallas, Friday: Angelle Sampey finished day one in the sixth spot. Sampey's best run on Friday was 7.075-seconds at 189.02 mph, which placed her in the top half of the field.

"That's fine that we're in the top half, but the guy we're chasing (Chip Ellis) to get into the Countdown to One is four spots ahead of us and that's not good," she said.

"Hopefully, tomorrow we can close the gap some before we get to race day."

Every point is critical for Sampey this weekend as she attempts to gain entry into the final phase of the NHRA playoffs which begin in Las Vegas next month.

"We've got to reach down deep and find a way to get in," she added. "I can guarantee you that we're going to keep battling."
