Lucas sees red

Dallas, Sunday: Morgan Lucas saw his hopes of capturing his first Top Fuel victory fall away at the O’Reilly Fall Nationals in a flash of red giving his opponent Brandon Bernstein a clear path to the win in their first round pairing at the Texas Motorplex.

Lucas reacted too quick (-.013) but ran a competitive 4.603 seconds, 323.27 mph elapsed time, while Bernstein motored to low ET of the race with his sound pass of 4.534 seconds, 323.89 mph.

He qualified in the No. 8 slot with an elapsed time of 4.581 seconds, 325.06 mph.

Lucas will remain in the 15 position in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel standings and has amassed a total of 615 points after the completion of 20 of 23 NHRA National events.
