Worsham breaks on the burnout

Pomona, Thursday: Del Worsham's Checker, Schuck's, Kragen Impala had a fuel leak after the burnout on Thursday and, under the instruction of his father Chuck, the driver shut the car off before competing. He therefore is not listed on the qualifying sheet and has no time heading into Friday's single session and a pair of Saturday runs.

"I'm pretty teed off about it, there's no getting around that," Worsham said. "We had another issue, finding something loose, in the staging lanes, so that had me pretty fired up, and then we had the fuel leak after the burnout. I know it's the end of a very long and hard season, but these things just should never happen, no matter what month or day it is. I know they do happen, they happen to every team out here at one time or another, but I still don't have to like it. It was just a loose fitting, I think, and the guys actually had it tightened, but my dad made it clear he wanted to shut the car off and he's the boss. After a series of things like that, maybe you just figure we're not supposed to run the car on that particular lap, like it's trying to tell you something, so I agree with that part of it.

"We have three more runs, so that's not a big deal, but any time you hand a run away, especially when things on the car aren't tight or are bolted on wrong, it definitely hits you in the gut because you've just wasted one-fourth of your chances to do well here. We'll get our heads screwed on straight and come back tomorrow running strong. We know what works out there, because our blue team is No. 1 right now."
