Herbert ends season tied for career best points finish
After qualifying in the No. 14 position, Herbert and the Snap-on Tools team faced David Baca in the first round of eliminations. Herbert left the line well ahead of Baca (.048 of a second to Baca’s .106 of a second), putting the Snap-onFranchise.com dragster across the finish line first. Herbert’s 4.62 second pass at 296.05 mph beat Baca’s 4.57 second pass, taking the win on a holeshot. Herbert squared off against Bob Vandergriff for the right to move into the semifinals. First off the line once again (.093 of second to Vandergriff’s .103), Herbert looked to be sailing into the semifinals. The Snap-onFranchise.com rail car suffered a lost cylinder before half-track, crossing the finish line with a 4.68 second pass, just behind Vandergriff’s 4.57 second run. “Of course we are disappointed we didn’t win today,” said Herbert, “but when I sit back and think about the season, I really have nothing to complain about. “We won the race in “There are lots of great teams out here that didn’t even finish in the top ten, so finishing sixth speaks volumes about how hard our team has worked and how much we have grown through the season, not to mention we finished ahead of all the other tool company cars. “We are fairly satisfied with how 2007 turned out for us. We have laid a solid foundation, and now we are going to spend the off-season getting ready to be contenders and make a strong run for the championship in 2008.”
