O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals
Two qualifying session down hammonds behind three slots
Houston, Friday: Team Hammonds is three slots from being apart of the 12 driver qualifying field after one day of competition at the O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in
Sitting in the 15th spot, both runs were substantial, but just not enough. Driver/Owner Tom Hammonds recorded 6.755 seconds (205.91 mph) for the first run and 6.698 seconds (206.51 mph) for the second run.
“Our second run was much better than our first run,” says an assured Hammonds, “and our wheel speed numbers were a little lower than when we tested on Tuesday. We know we have a lot left in our Chevy Cobalt to qualify for the field and are confident we can do that.”
Crew Chief Jerry Eckman will prepare to make the field during tomorrow’s competition by adjusting their set-ups and making sure enough clutch is present to compensate for faster wheel speed. Being a good indicator on how good they can run, they are certain to find that happy medium to make the qualifying field on Saturday.
“We tested earlier in the week, and this track proves to be better than our test track,” says Eckman. “With a few adjustments, we will make the field tomorrow.”Team
