Brown eyes position in top half of field
Houston, Friday: Antron Brown raced his David Powers-owned Matco Tools dragster to the provisional No. 12 qualifying position Friday evening at Houston Raceway Park. The Matco Tools/Valvoline rail sits on the bump spot with two qualifying sessions remaining at the 21st annual O’Reilly Spring Nationals. Brown, who earned the Pro Stock Motorcycle pole at Houston Raceway Park in 2001, opened qualifying at the Baytown track with a conservative Lee Beard tune-up as he powered the Matco Tools/iLocate GPS dragster to a pass of 4.644 seconds at 322.42 mph. It was the fifth quickest pass of the opening session. Brown’s dragster slowed on Friday’s second qualifying attempt as the 16-time NHRA PSM winner clocked a pass of 4.706 at 276.83 to finish in the provisional No. 12 qualifying spot.
