Brown drives to No. 6 position
Las Vegas, Saturday: Antron Brown raced his David Powers-owned Matco Tools dragster to the No. 6 qualifying position Saturday afternoon at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Brown used a run of 4.600-seconds to qualify in the top half of the field for the fourth time in five races this season. Brown’s quickest run of qualifying came on Friday evening when the 17-time NHRA winner raced the Matco-backed rail to a pass of 4.600 seconds at 324.75 mph. On Saturday afternoon, the only driver to win races in both Top Fuel and Pro Stock Motorcycle made two consistent passes. The Lee Beard-tuned rail clocked runs of 4.833 at 242.50 and 4.639 at 313.59 as Brown looks to earn his second straight Top Fuel win. He won the Top Fuel title at the “It was tricky out there this weekend,” Brown said. “That track was hot and slick, but Lee Beard and the Matco guys did a great job of getting this car down the track. I’m confident we can go some rounds tomorrow. Lee is good on these hot tracks.” Brown will face off against No. 11 qualifier Bob Vandergriff, Jr. when Top Fuel eliminations kick off at 11 a.m. (PT) on Sunday morning. Brown has a round record of 7-3 this season.
