Ron Capps NAPA Auto Parts Dodge Charger

Atlanta, Friday: Ron Capps drove the NAPA Auto Parts Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car into the No. 8 position after two rounds of qualifying for the NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway.

He recorded his quickest pass of 4.882 seconds at 310.34 mph in the second session. His first pass was also strong, a 4.943/302.48, which was good for No. 3 at the time. Two more rounds of qualifying will be held on Saturday.

Under warm conditions and the potential of rain looming for Saturday, Capps and the NAPA Auto Parts Dodge crew were happy to earn a spot in the top half of the field.

“What a good day. We have the NAPA people here and we really want to do well for them,” said Capps, who moved from No. 15 to No. 8 with the last pass. “Guys were throwing shots out there. And you’re sitting back there in the lanes and thinking, Oh, boy, we’d better have our act together because everybody else is stepping up. You want to be one of those in the top 12.”
