Herbert ready to win in front of Snap-on home team

Chicago, pre-race: Route 66 Raceway holds a special place in the heart of Doug Herbert, owner and driver of the SnaponFranchise.com Top Fuel dragster. With the Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 NHRA Nationals just a few short days away, Herbert looks forward to racing in front of a crowd filled with his Snap-on family.

The closest race to corporate headquarters of Snap-on Tools in Kenosha, Wis., the SnaponFranchise.com pit area will be filled with executives, employees, and friends Herbert has made through his 16 year relationship with his primary sponsor.

“I am always excited about coming to Route 66 Raceway,” said Herbert. “Being able to see all my friends from the Snap-on main office is great. I have been friends with some of these people for so long I really consider them my family, and getting to see them face to face instead of talking over the phone or by email is one of the main reasons I love coming to this track.”

Since the death of his sons, Jon and James, in a tragic automobile accident in January, the support Herbert has received from Snap-on Tools has been a true source of strength for the veteran driver and long time Snap-on spokesman.

“Several of my friends from Snap-on were able to come down to North Carolina after the accident, but being here will give me the opportunity to thank everyone for all the support they have shown me and my family in person.”

As Herbert continues his quest to win the 2008 NHRA Top Fuel championship for his boys, it is easy to understand the other reasons Herbert loves Route 66.

“I’ve had pretty good luck here,” said Herbert. “I won the fall race back in 2004 and have also been the No. 1 qualifier before.  We went to the semifinals last year, so we are looking to take it one step further this time around.

“We are very focused on going rounds and winning the championship for my boys, and I can’t think of any better place to win a race than in front of the Snap-on home team.”
