Dave Connolly Industrial Distribution Group Chevrolet Cobalt

Chicago, Friday:  Dave Connolly left Route 66 Raceway Friday night 12th after the opening round of qualifying for the Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 Nationals. His goal during Saturday's two runs will be to improve his 6.742-second elapsed time enough to climb into the top eight for Sunday's eliminations.

"We were a little soft on the first run," Connolly said of his 6.756-second, 204.48-mph effort.  "We came back and ran one of the straightest runs we've made in our Charter Communications/LifeLock Chevy Cobalt, and that's the up side.  We had some issues with the motor on that run. Once we get that straightened out, we'll be all right."

The team spent two days testing at Martin, Mich., after Sunday's race at Topeka, working on getting the Chevy Cobalt to go straight on each run.
