Eventful day for Todd
Chicago, Friday: J.R. Todd drove his Lucas Oil Octane Booster Top Fuel dragster into the No. 4 provisional qualifying position with his run of 4.555 seconds, 328.14 mph on Friday for the Torco Race Fuels Nationals at Route 66 Raceway. The day proved to be quite an eventful one for the 26-year old, as he had his hands full in the first session of qualifying when his powerful dragster leaped off the starting line with his front wheels hiked up pointing towards the sky. “It was running good that first lap, but it’s hard to steer when the front end is up in the air like that,” chuckled Todd. “The car has been running its best since That solid qualifying effort echoes the sentiment of the Lucas Oil Octane Booster bunch, led by veteran crew chief, John Stewart. Having that run firmly places them in the line-up and with impending temperatures predicted on Saturday in the 90 degree range, Team Lucas is hoping for more clouds than sun on Saturday. “Anytime you have cloud cover the teeth of the racetrack comes out,” said Todd. “Just keep the sun off of it and the let the temperature fall like it did for the second session today and we’ll be just fine. I’m really surprised there weren’t more quick times than there were. I’m not going to complain about No. 4…that will good for Sunday.”
