Brown drives to No. 2 position
The two-time Top Fuel winner posted the second quickest lap of the opening day of qualifying when Brown blasted the Matco Tools/Go Fast dragster to a performance of 4.516 seconds at 331.53 mph on Friday evening at Route 66 Raceway. On Saturday’s first qualifying attempt, the bright blue Matco Tools/iLocate GPS car shook the tires and Brown slowed to a pass of 8.988 at 85.67. He remained second in the 16-car order. Following a heavy afternoon rain shower and a three-hour delay, Lee Beard and the Matco Tools/Valvoline team elected not to make its final qualifying attempt. It is Brown’s best qualifying spot since earning the pole at the Winternationals in “We’re excited about going into race day on Sunday,” Brown said. “We qualified well again and I’m amped and pumped and we’re ready to go to work on Sunday.” Brown will match-up against No. 15 qualifier and local favorite T.J. Zizzo when Top Fuel eliminations begin at 11 a.m.
