Lucas model of consistency in qualifying
Chicago, Saturday: Morgan Lucas was an paradigm of consistency in Saturday’s qualifying at the Route 66 Raceway for the running of the Torco Race Fuels Nationals. His runs of 4.619 seconds, 305.01 mph and 4.613 seconds, 315.49 mph might have placed his Lucas Oil dragster in the No. 11 qualifying position, but the uniformity of the pair of passes gives Lucas a confident feeling heading into Sunday’s event. “We accomplished what we intended to do today,” said Lucas. “With the heat and humidity, it equalizes the competition and it will be same when first round rolls around tomorrow. That way, we know what we have in store and can progress from there.” Lucas will race Alan Bradshaw for the first time of his career and will mark his 30th different Top Fuel driver he’s faced in National event competition. Another statistical note will show Lucas will reach his 150th Top Fuel round of competition in his first round match up against Bradshaw. “It’s hard to believe we’ve reached that milestone as quick as we did,” smiled Lucas. “Personally, I would see us win our 153rd round win before the day is over…that’s what I’m hoping to do with our race setup for Sunday.”
