J.R. Todd Lucas Oil Octane Booster dragster

Chicago, Sunday: J.R. Todd, driving the Lucas Oil Octane Booster Top Fuel dragster, suffered a first round loss at the Torco Race Fuels Nationals at Route 66 Raceway against Doug Herbert after qualifying in the elite No. 4 position.

Todd launched hard off the starting line to suddenly lose traction ending up in tire smoke allowing Herbert to power away for the round win. Todd ran a cruising time of 8.718 seconds, 98.14 mph to Herbert’s pass of 4.686 seconds, 293.86 mph.

He had his best qualifying effort of the 2008 NHRA POWERade season, so far, with his run of 4.555 seconds 328.14 mph from Friday night in securing his No. 4 starting position.

After the completion of the Chicago race, Todd stays in the No. 12 position in the Top Fuel points chase with 345 points and has eight races remaining to catch up in earning a berth in the Countdown to the Championship.
