KJ will roll off sixth

Seattle, Saturday:  For the 13th time in this season’s first fourteen races, Kurt Johnson and the ACDelco Cobalt Racing team qualified in the top half of the field, slotting themselves sixth for Sunday’s final eliminations of the Schuck’s Auto Supply Nationals in Seattle, WA.  Coming into the final two rounds of qualifying at Pacific Raceways in the eighth position, Johnson recorded the third quickest elapsed time of the day in the morning session at 6.596 seconds while posting Saturday’s fastest top speed at 209.92 mph, establishing a new career best for the second-generation racer.

After using his final attempt as a high-speed test session, the “blue crew began working on getting their car ready for race day, with KJ encouraged by his team’s progress throughout the two days of qualifying.

“We’re not killing it, but our ACDelco Cobalt is definitely in the hunt.  We ran that 6.59 this morning, which was third quickest, and the low elapsed time for the round was a 6.58, so we’re close to where we want to be.  We knew it would be slower this afternoon and that we most probably wouldn’t get bumped down, so we tried a few things to see how it would react.  Even though it was a bit off, it still went down the right lane when other cars couldn’t.

“We’re not worried going into race day.  We’ll make some changes, going back to the faster tires and other things we know will work.  It will definitely go down the track - it’s just a matter of getting off the starting line first.   The best part is that we definitely have enough to win.”
