Edwards earns first pole since 2001
Sonoma, Saturday: It has been 146 starts since Mike Edwards and the Young Life/Penhall team has entered Sunday’s elimination as the top qualifier, and to the team it is a nice place to be, after they napped the No. 1 spot at the Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals, when his Friday run held up through Saturday. “It is a great position to be in, but Sunday is a different day; you pull up there, and it’s like you’re the No. 16 qualifier,” he said. “I’m going to race like I always race and go up there like I’m the underdog.” Edwards, who currently sits seventh in the NHRA Pro Stock points, hopes Sunday allows him end the Western Swing on an upswing in the standings and move him closer to the Countdown. “I feel like at the last two races I’ve let some points slip away from me.
