Stevens comes back, qualifies 12th

Indianapolis, Sunday:  Pessimistic prior to Sunday's two qualifying runs for Monday's U.S. Nationals at O'Reilly Raceway Park, crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia was all smiles later in the day because Richie Stevens qualified Kenny Koretsky's Nitro Fish/Indicom Electric Pontiac GXP in the No. 10 Pro Stock position.

Stevens had solid runs of 6.678 and 6.717 seconds Monday to easily push his way into the 16-car field.  But it didn't look that way until Monday.  He was 22nd after Sunday's runs.

"It feels good," said a smiling Guarnaccia, who changed the engine tune-up and worked on the chassis.  "It was like a test session.  I'm happy we get to give Richie a good race car for eliminations.  Everyone did a good job and Richie is doing a good job driving."

Stevens, runner-up to Greg Anderson here in 2005, races Anderson (No. 7, 6.667 at 206.95 mph) in the first round.
