Major changes to Buell rewarded with good times Saturday
They worked late Friday night, changing virtually everything on the Pro Stock Motorcycle in time for Saturday’s final two qualifying runs. They were very pleased by rider Chris Rivas’ performances. The switch came after Rivas ran 6.990 seconds at 188.81 mph that put him third. But Saturday’s runs were in hot conditions, the same expected for Sunday. That’s why Rivas’ 6.997 on his last attempt impressed crew chief George Smith and the crew. It was second-quickest of the session. “We were excited with that run, the second with a completely different engine, fuel system and ignition,” Smith said. Rivas resumes his championship quest Sunday following last week’s early out at “I could tell it was on a good run because the shift light was coming on quicker and quicker,” said Rivas after the 6.997. “We gained two miles an hour from our qualifying speed in the heat – another indication it was a good run. “That was a big shot of morale for our whole team.”
