Tasca returns to site of first-ever drag racing win
Richmond, pre-race: Rookie Bob Tasca III will compete this weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park, which is not just a familiar track to Tasca, but also one that holds a lot of good memories for the driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang.

“For our team, our view going into this race is that we need to re-establish this car on Friday night,” said Tasca. “We had a point earlier this season when we were consistently qualifying in the top half of the field and we need to get back to that point. We’ve been running very well on Saturday, but truth be told, you’ve got to be running well on Friday night to get to the top of the field. We just haven’t put ourselves in a position on Friday night like we need to, so we’re hoping for a strong run under the lights this Friday.
“We’ve been at such a disadvantage this season with not being able to test, and it’s been so frustrating to me as a young driver and to Chris [Cunningham, crew chief],” said Tasca. “It’s difficult to go out on a race weekend and try something different because if you get a little too far out of the groove, sometimes it’s hard to find your way back. It’s just been challenging for us not to have that opportunity to test. But now we are getting into conditions that we saw earlier in the season, so we do have some great data that we can work off of.”
For Tasca, it’s hard to believe that only three races remain in his rookie season. And while frustrated by missing the Countdown field this season, Tasca and his team have come a long way in the past year, with their race team still not even a full year old.
“I was talking to some of the guys at Motorcraft this weekend and this season has almost been like a blur," said Tasca. "If you look back at what we’ve done since last November with the racing side and the business side of this program, it’s pretty remarkable. We’ve had a lot of good things happen this year and we’ve got a lot of big announcements that we’re going to make between now and the end of the year, which is going to build momentum for 2009.“From a business side, it’s amazing how the Motorcraft and
