Johnson No.3 after Halloween qualifying session
The Mopar/J&J Racing Dodge Stratus R/T driver posted a pass of 6.717/204.54 in the second qualifying session behind the wheel of his Mopar/J&J Racing Dodge Stratus R/T. The Greeneville, Johnson, currently seventh in the NHRA Countdown to 1 Pro Stock standings, is especially eager to move up into the top spot tomorrow in order to grab the bonus points awarded the No. 1 Qualifier. “It would be awesome to get the pole. We’ll take every point we can get,” said Johnson, who has captured three No. 1 Qualifier Awards thus far. “I’ve sort of quit counting points, though, and just said we need to win the last two races. It doesn’t matter what everyone else does. We just need to worry about doing our own job.” Johnson added, “We’ve got a little more for ’em. Tomorrow morning is probably going to be the best run. I think we have to look at those first two runs and make a few changes. That last run we had a battery malfunction that hurt us probably half-a-hundredth of a second. So I think we still have a little more in this Mopar HEMI®-powered Dodge, and I think we have the chance to take the pole tomorrow.”
