WJ will roll off eighth
Las Vegas, Saturday: On the strength of a 6.735-second elapsed time recorded on his second attempt on Friday evening, Warren Johnson qualified the GM Performance Parts Pontiac GXP in the eighth position for Sunday’s final eliminations of the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas, NV. Throughout the four qualifying sessions, the six-time champion and his crew continued to fine-tune their race car, trying to adapt it to the track at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and methodically closed the gap between themselves and the top performers in the highly competitive Pro Stock division. As a result, Johnson was cautiously optimistic about his chances for Sunday.
“We keep working on our GM Performance Parts GXP, doing what we need to improve its performance. After that last run, we’re within 16/1000ths of the quickest times, which shows we’re making headway. All in all, I’d say we should be in good shape for tomorrow.
“The track here in Las Vegas has been pretty good both days, with little difference between the two lanes. Depending on what happens with oil downs in the other classes, I really don’t think lane choice will be a factor, which should make it better for the fans as far as quality of racing is concerned. Now it’s up to us to make the most of it.”
