Rookie year coming to a close

Pomona, pre-race: One final race is left on the NHRA professional tour and the Quarter-Max Mopar Dodge Stratus team is closing out their rookie season. The team has put on a good showing all year long and driver Rickie Jones has made a name for himself as a potential candidate for Rookie of the Year honors. With just one race left the team wants to set the stage for what 2009 holds. Jones elaborates on what he hopes the Auto Club NHRA Finals holds for the team:

"Pomona is a very historic race and we're pumped to be here. It's hard to believe that our first year in NHRA Pro Stock is already coming to an end. This team has done an incredible job all season long and I'm really proud of all that we've accomplished this early in our Pro Stock career. So no matter what we do here in Pomona, it's been a good year. We've done well, and we've had a lot of fun. I'm hoping we end the season on a good note. We're here to prove that we're in this game to win, so hopefully Pomona can be a precursor for good things to come in 2009.

"The weather here is great," continues the Illinois based driver. "We're expecting 70 and 80 degree temperatures all weekend. Back home it's 15 or 20 degrees! So I'm going to enjoy that while we're out here. This is a great place to finish out the year. We didn't go to the first Pomona race so I'm excited to tackle another new track and defy my rookie status for one more race."
