Tony opens weekend in fourth
The 2003 NHRA Funny Car champion used the night’s cooler conditions to his advantage. During his second qualifying pass, Pedregon posted a 4.813-second elapsed time at 318.92 mph that put him firmly in the top half of the field, in the No. 4 position. “We could have run even better, but the car shot a spark plug out and we’re trying to find the reason,” said Pedregon. “But I’m very please because we are back in the shape we were a few races ago. We qualified in the top half of the field and we plan on taking advantage of those conditions. “Tomorrow, we’re expecting warmer temperatures. At this point, we just need to focus on running the car in the heat. With what we have learned during the last couple of runs, we should be able to have a good day tomorrow.”
