Herbert doesn't have any luck at home track
Herbert and the Snap-on Tools team lost in the first round Sunday at the O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway. Herbert drove to a 4.604-second pass at 321.42 mph falling to Larry Dixon's 4.557 at 327.43.
"I know this team is working as hard as they can and I just feel like we are on the edge of being a consistently quick team that can turn on the win light," Herbert said. "I really am disappointed that we didn't win the round and the race.
"We always say that in drag racing, you usually need one lucky round to get you through the day. We haven't had that round in a while."
To say the least, Herbert is disappointed. Not just because he didn't win the race. Herbert had a large cheering crowd this weekend. His race shop and parts business, Herbert Performance Parts, is a short ride away from Bristol Dragway. Several employees as well as numerous friends, family and special Marines home from duty were on site, hoping for a victory.
"Every race that I come to I think there is a chance that I can win," Herbert said. "The way this team has come together and worked on this car, I keep thinking we are going to earn the win sooner than later. It would have been a perfect situation, winning the race with all of the employees and friends here.
"The way I see it, we owe them one, so hopefully we can make it good when we do win."
