Three -dollar part ends Weis' day early

Columbus, Sunday: After a great fourth-round qualifying run, the Barrett Enterprises Top Fuel team is sent home early by Morgan Lucas and his team. Weis' Top Fueler was slowed by a failed jet holder on the engine. The failed three-dollar part starved the engine of nitro. Tuner Howard Weis estimates that the engine's fuel volume was down some 40 percent from where it should have been.

Scott Weis, pilot of the Barrett Enterprises Top Fueler, noted about his first-round run, "Morgan made a great pass we would have had to make a perfect pass to move to second round. Aside from this stupid parts failure, the car is running real well and I expect some great runs in Topeka and our sponsor's home track in Chicago. It just wasn't our weekend this time. We are making strides with the combination and I expect us to be going rounds soon.”

Tuner Howard Weis summed up the team's near future with a comment to the team's sponsor Bill Barrett as he pored over the car's data recorder: "Bill, it's gonna get real fun real soon.”
