Barrett Enterprises team putting extra effort into qualifying

Topeka, prerace: Chamber of commerce weather is expected all weekend at Heartland Park Topeka low 70 degree temperatures should make hooking up big horsepower a little easier.

“When we got outside the airport terminal, it was beautiful, said Scott Weis, pilot of the Barrett Enterprises Top Fuel dragster. "This track is to be going really quick, if it stays this cool. I wouldn't be surprised if we had the quickest Top Fuel field in history. I'm sure we'll see some 4.40s this weekend. If we make a good run first round Friday we might even try to run our first 4.40. It's going to be great weekend for the fans.

"Our tune-up is really coming around; we stopped hurting parts last week, so now we've got a combination we can tune from. Our focus this weekend will be all about qualifying better. Qualifying in the top eight has become so important with all the good cars out here. Lane choice is critical this year too, statistically very few cars advance without lane choice. It's crucial for us to qualify better and get lane choice."

Tuner Howard Weis seems to have gained a great deal of confidence lately.

"It's about to get fun again here in the 'working man's' pit," said tuner Howard Weis. "I'm strapping my brother to a rocket Friday night, if the track will hold it Scott might run a career best here in Topeka Friday."
