Big support despite performance struggles
Englishtown, Friday: The Barrett Enterprises Top Fuel team is enjoying big support in the Northeast as a cavalcade of supporters have been surrounding the pit area of the "working man's team" all weekend. Hundreds of members of the New Jersey Council of Carpenters have come out this weekend for the K&N SuperNationals and they're all rallying around the driver with the big United Brotherhood of Carpenters emblem on his race car. "This deal is getting more fun every race," said Weis. "I got treated like a rock star in "The only downside this weekend is the car's performance. We know we can do better than 4.70s. We were on a great run last night when the Woody (Weis' Top Fueler with nostalgic Woody-inspired graphics) dropped a cylinder and then shredded the blower belt. Our incrementals early in the run were great, if we can only make this car run on all eight we'll have a hot rod Woody.” Tuner Howard Weis is determined to run better. "The .70s were made for disco not Top Fuelers," said the Elder Weis. "We've gotten so much publicity from this Union deal that fans know who I am now and ask me 'What happened' on the walk back to the pits after my brother runs. I'm not having any fun having to explain why we aren't quicker to the fans. I'm going to do my best to earn a high five from a fan Saturday. The combination is so close to coming together. I'm promising all the 700,000 UBC members out there that you'll have something to cheer about soon.”
