Schumacher on top of charts

Indianapolis, Friday: After one qualifying session here Friday, U.S. Army NHRA Racing drivers Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher and Antron Brown both easily settled into the field for the 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

A four-time winner of the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals, Schumacher started the weekend with a 4.459-second pass at 329.18 mph. Both numbers were track records.

"Obviously, it was a stellar run," he said. "It's nice going into the next four sessions sitting in the position we're in. I'm sure Alan Johnson (his crew chief) will tweak things even further over the next couple of days to get ready for Monday."

The Chicago native is looking to nail down his fourth straight pole and his eighth of the season.

"We ran in the cool evening air today, so now we have to come back the next couple of days and run well in the heat of the day. That's important for race day."
