Gilbertson looking for big numbers at Dallas
Dallas, prerace: Knowing it's reputation as one of the quickest and fastest tracks on the NHRA POWERade circuit, Funny Car racer Bob Gilbertson is looking forward to racing at the legendary Texas Motorplex for this weekend's O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals. Built by former Funny Car driver Billy Meyer 20 years ago it was the first of the "super tracks" and was also the first track with an all-concrete quarter mile racing surface.
"The Motorplex is a racer's racetrack," Gilbertson said. "Fantastic traction all the way down the track, great atmospheric conditions and every driver wants to take advantage of the almost perfect conditions there."
"The past few races we've been on the brink of running really good but a few minor mechanical problems have hampered our performance and we hope to turn it around this weekend. Our half track numbers have been really fast but we've got to work on getting the car to the finish line under power in order to bring this team to the next level."
"We're so close " Gilbertson's co-crew chief Nick Boninfante added. "It's just been a few little things that have hurt us from running some big numbers and once we get that figured out I'm confident that we'll have a car that Bob can win with."
