Pedregon electrifies qualifying, opens in second slot
Chicago, Friday: Tony Pedregon and the Q Racing Nitro Funny Car are on a roll.
Coming off his first victory of the 2005 season at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pa., two weekends ago, Pedregon laid down another ace tonight at Route 66 Raceway, lapping the suburban Chicago quarter mile in 4.680 seconds at 320.36 mph.
The run was a career best, tying brother Cruz Pedregon for the second-quickest pass in NHRA Nitro Funny Car history.
“I want to thank (crew chief) Dickie Venables and the entire Q Racing team,” Pedregon said. “They have worked real hard this year, now were starting to see what this team is capable of.
“This is such a great race track too,” Venables continued. “People are in for a treat this weekend. This is what Q Racing is all about. The motor oil we use this weekend has given us the horsepower we need to put up numbers like this. And we took advantage of the great weather conditions as well.”
