Federal-Mogul Series stops in Bristol

Dragway will host a round of the $6.5 million NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series Oct. 13-15. This is the final event of six in NHRA Southeast Division competition. Drivers in eight racing categories will compete for cash and contingency awards of $146,380.

The event will feature 250-mph side-by-side racing in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car. Other competing classes are Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.

Winners from last year's event are Darrell Russell in Federal-Mogul Dragster, Bob Newberry in Federal-Mogul Funny Car, Larry Pritchett in Comp Eliminator, Mike Crutchfield in Super Stock, Lee Bannister in Stock, Steve Witherow in Super Comp, Tom Small in Super Gas, and Dwight Limbaugh in Super Street.

Gates at Bristol Dragway open at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Qualifying and time trials begin at noon Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Funny Car qualifying sessions are at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Friday, and 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Those two classes will run first round of elimnations at 6 p.m. Saturday. Sunday, gates open at 9 a.m. and eliminations begin at 11 a.m.

NHRA FEDERAL-MOGUL DRAG RACING SERIES: Fact Sheet

WHAT: NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series, where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships. Categories include: Federal-Mogul Dragster, Federal-Mogul Funny Car, Competition, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. This is the final of six events in Southeast Division competition.

WHERE: Bristol Dragway, Bristol, Tenn. Track is located on Hwy 394 in Bristol. From the south, take I-81 to I-181. Continue on I-181 to 11-E and exit at Hwy. 394 east to Bristol Dragway entrance.

WHEN: Friday through Sunday, Oct. 13-15, 2000.

SCHEDULE: Time trials and qualifying schedule for the Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series:

FRIDAY, Oct. 13 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Qualifying and time trials begin at noon. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car qualifying sessions scheduled at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.

SATURDAY, Oct. 14 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Final qualifying and time trials begin at 10 a.m. Final qualifying for Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. First round of eliminations for FMD/FC begin at 6 p.m.

SUNDAY, Oct. 15 -- Gates open at 9 a.m. Eliminations begin at 11 a.m.

PURSE: The NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series competitors will compete for cash and contingency awards of $146,380, part of the 43-race, $6.5 million series.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
FEDERAL-MOGUL POINTS FUND --
a $400,250 point fund from Federal-Mogul, which will be shared by 2000 Federal-Mogul divisional champions and Federal-Mogul national champions. Divisional awards include $6,000 each to the Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car champions; $2,250 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $1,500 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven Federal-Mogul national champions will share a bonus of $122,000.

NHRA WINSTON DIVISIONAL TOP QUALIFIER BONUS -- a $107,500 overall bonus fund from Winston for the top qualifiers at each of the 43 events: $1,000 each in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car; $200 each in Competition and Super Stock; and $100 in Stock.

WITTNAUER EVERY SECOND COUNTS -- Wittnauer International to award limited edition Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series watches to the divisional champions in all contested categories at the end of the season.

FEATURES: More than 350 drivers in the eight racing categories. Eight-car fields in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car, featuring five-second, 250 mph side-by-side racing.
