Kanenwisher takes aim at sophomore season

Sears Point Raceway hosts Div. 7 FMDRS

Sears Point Raceway will play host to NHRA's Pacific Division June 30-July 2. The Team Chevrolet Festival of Fire is the third of seven Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series events in Pacific Division competition.

There will be more than 500 drivers competing in eight racing categories - Federal-Mogul Dragster, Federal-Mogul Funny Car, Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Funny Car feature side-by-side five-second, 250-mph racing.

Gates at Sears Point Raceway open at 7:30 a.m. each day with qualifying and time trials beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Eliminations begin Sunday at 9 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragsters and Funny Cars are scheduled to run at 3 p.m. Friday, noon and 5 p.m. Saturday, and will begin round one of eliminations at noon on Sunday. Following the regular race schedule on Saturday, there will be a fireworks and jet car show after dark.

Winners of last year's event are Rick Santos in Federal-Mogul Dragster; Mert Littlefield in Federal-Mogul Funny Car; Rick Braun in Comp; Tony DeFrank in Super Stock; Don Little in Stock; Rick Beckstrom in Super Comp; Pete Bothe in Super Gas; and Ted Kellner in Super Street.

Tickets are $5 on Friday, $25 on Saturday and $20 on Sunday. Children 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. For more information, please call Sears Point Raceway, (800) 870-RACE.

NHRA FEDERAL-MOGUL DRAG RACING SERIES: Fact Sheet

WHAT: NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series, where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships. Categories include: Federal-Mogul Dragster, Federal-Mogul Funny Car, Competition, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The event is the third of seven in Pacific Division competition.

WHERE: Sears Point Raceway, Sonoma, Calif. Track is located north of San Rafael, at the junction of Highways 37 and 121.

WHEN: Friday through Sunday, June 30-July 2, 2000.

SCHEDULE: Time trials and qualifying schedule for the Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series:

FRIDAY, June 30 -- Gates open at 7:30 a.m. Qualifying and time trials scheduled from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car qualifying session scheduled at 3 p.m.

SATURDAY, July 1 -- Gates open at 7:30 a.m. Final qualifying and time trials scheduled from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car qualifying sessions are scheduled at noon and 5 p.m. There will be a jet car and fireworks show after dark.

SUNDAY, July 2 -- Gates open at 7:30 a.m. Eliminations begin at 9 a.m. Eliminations for Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car begin at noon.

PURSE: The NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series competitors will compete for cash and contingency awards of $142,380, part of the 43-race, $6.5 million series.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
FEDERAL-MOGUL POINTS FUND -- a $400,250 point fund from Federal-Mogul, which will be shared by 2000 Federal-Mogul divisional champions and Federal-Mogul national champions. Divisional awards include $6,000 each to the Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car champions; $2,250 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $1,500 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven Federal-Mogul national champions will share a bonus of $122,000.

NHRA WINSTON DIVISIONAL TOP QUALIFIER BONUS -- a $107,500 overall bonus fund from Winston for the top qualifiers at each of the 43 events: $1,000 each in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car; $200 each in Competition and Super Stock; and $100 in Stock.

WITTNAUER EVERY SECOND COUNTS -- Wittnauer International to award limited edition Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series watches to the divisional champions in all contested categories at the end of the season.

FEATURES: More than 500 drivers in the eight racing categories. Eight-car fields in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car, featuring five-second, 250 mph side-by-side racing.

Saturday Spectacular - Fireworks, jet cars and MiG Magic - scheduled after regular racing ends.
