Results Friday after the first rounds of qualifying at Beech Bend Raceway, the final event of the North Central Division’s six NHRA Federal- Mogul Drag Racing Series schedule: On the first day of qualifying during a weekend that promises to bring more than 500 cars to Beech Bend Raceway, Federal-Mogul Funny Car driver Cy Chesterman of Sioux City, Iowa, and Federal-Mogul Dragster driver Jeff Wilson of Winfield, Mo., lead their categories. Chesterman set a track record with his 5.801 elapsed time (e.t.). He ran at 251.74 mph. Wilson’s ran a 5.623 e.t. at 245.82 mph. As racers from each of NHRA’s seven divisions battle for points the week before the U.S. Nationals race in Indianapolis, leaders in other categories are Randy Daniels of Grantsboro, N.C., in Competition Eliminator, Bud Rowe of Bridgeton, N.C., in Stock Eliminator and Mike Cates of Milan, Ky., in Super Stock. Qualifying continues tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. for all eight sportsman categories. Saturday Qualifying Final:

Results Saturday after the final rounds of qualifying at Beech Bend Raceway, the final event of the North Central Division’s six NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series schedule: Racers from all over the country have come to fight it out in an all-out battle for NHRA divisional points. Each of the NHRA’s seven divisions is represented at Beech Bend Raceway. In that battle, Federal-Mogul Dragster driver Jeff Wilson and Federal-Mogul Funny Car driver Cy Chesterman, who both race out of the West Central division, remain the top qualifiers in their classes. Chesterman’s 5.80 e.t. at 251.74 mph from yesterday kept him in the top spot and Jeff Wilson’s 5.623 at 245.82 mph kept him the number one qualifier. In other qualifying classes, Rick Hord took over the top spot in Competition Eliminator, Jennifer D’Ziorny has moved up in Stock Eliminator, and Super Stocker Mike Cates maintained his lead from Friday. Sunday Results:

Results Sunday after the final day of racing at Beech Bend Raceway, the final event of the North Central Division’s six NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series schedule: This weekend sportsman racers from across the country are gearing up to head to the U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis, bringing more than 550 cars to Beech Bend Raceway. In the end, Federal-Mogul Funny Car driver John Powell beat out the weekend’s number one qualifier, Cy Chesterman, in the final round and in Federal-Mogul Dragster competition, Bill Reichert beat out Bob McCosh. Powell and Chesterman, who is in the running for a national championship this year, ran identical elapsed times (e.t.) of 5.928 and Powell took it on his reaction time of .431 to .465. Reichert, who qualified in the sixth spot, ran a 5.73 e.t. at 239.30 mph. Joining Powell and Reichert in the Winners’ Circle were Todd Franz in Comp Eliminator; Melissa Butler in Super Stock; Mike Walter, who locked up the divisional championship, in Stock; Tommy Phillips in Super Comp; Bill Sanders in Super Gas; and Scott Rider in Super Street.
