Darrell Russell and Todd Simpson are the top qualifiers
after the first round of qualifying at the NHRA Federal-
Mogul Drag Racing Series event at Memphis Motorsports
Park.  

Darrell Russell claimed the number one position in the
Federal-Mogul Dragster category with a 5.667 second,
245.96 mph run to lead Michael Gunderson who followed
in the second spot with a 5.704 second, 243.70 mph pass.
A pass of 5.937 seconds at 240.00 mph put Todd Simpson
in the top qualifying spot in Federal-Mogul Funny Car
ahead of Jackie Stidham who qualified second with a
6.112 second, 193.67 mph trip down the quarter mile.
Buddy Nickens captured the number one qualifying postion
in the Comp. Eliminator category with a run of  8.623
seconds.

Qualifying continues on Saturday with Federal-Mogul
Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Cars scheduled for
2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.  Gates will open at 8:00
a.m. with sportsman  qualifying and time trials set
to begin at 9:00 a.m.

Scotter Anderson led the field in the Super Stock
category with a run of 9.737 seconds, .963 under
his index.

Jeff Teuton led the Stock category in qualifying
with a pass of 13.260 seconds, 1.290 under his index.

SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE
Chris Oravecz led Sportsmen Motorcycles with a pass
of 9.41 seconds at 135.31 mph.

Saturday Qualifying Final:

Michael Gunderson and Todd Simpson are the top
qualifiers after the final round of qualifying at the
NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event at
Memphis Motorsports Park.  

Michael Gunderson holds the number one position in
the Federal-Mogul Dragster category with a 5.651
second, 246.77 mph run to lead Bill Ancona, the
number two qualifier who had a pass of 5.655 second,
246.84 mph. Todd Simpson, with run of 5.937 seconds
at 240.00 mph held on to the top qualifying position
in the Federal-Mogul Funny Car class, followed by
Jackie Stidham who qualified second with a 5.985
second, 234.98 mph trip down the quarter mile.
Brian Browell captured the number one qualifying
postion in the Competition Eliminator category
with a run of  7.477 seconds.

Final Eliminations begin on Sunday a 9:00 a.m.
with Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul
Funny Car eliminations set for 12:00 noon.  Gates
will open at 8:00 a.m.

Mike Cates led the field in the Super Stock category
with a run of 10.872 seconds, 1.028 under his index
of 11.90.

Jeff Teuton held on to his number one qualifying
position in the Stock category  with a run of 13.260
seconds, 1.290 under his index of 14.55.

SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE
William Keele led Sportsmen Motorcycles with a pass
of 9.26 at 140.82 mph.

Final Eliminations begin on Sunday a 9:00 a.m. with
Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car
eliminations set for 12:00 noon.  Gates will open
at 8:00 a.m.

Advancing from the number one qualifying position,
Michael Gunderson won the Federal-Mogul Dragster
category at the Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series
event at the Memphis Motorsports Park. Joining
Gunderson in the winner’s circle was Todd Simpson
who claimed the Federal-Mogul Funny Car crown.

Facing Bill Ancona in the final round of Federal-
Mogul Dragster,  Gunderson won with a 5.68 second
pass, at 246.91 mph pass to beat Ancona to the
finish line.  Simpson’s victory in Feder-Mogul
Funny Car came at the expense of Todd Paton.
In the final, Simpson recorded a pass of 6.22
seconds at 246.91 mph to take home the win.
