fall, so we are down.

Right Lane: Freddie Neely Runs 5.359/280.98 Psn # 1

This is the completion of the round that was started
earlier before the rain delay. We will start off with a

Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 6.656/134.71 Psn # 3

Right Lane: Chuck Etchells Runs 5.109/304.67 Psn # 2

the mark for rest of the drivers to shoot at.

Left Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 5.041/303.95 Psn # 2

Right Lane: Tom Hoover Runs 5.247/292.96 Psn # 7

These guys are side by side, and the home state favorite
gets to the finish line before the champ. It did not appear
like either car had problems, just down on the power.

Left Lane: Dean Skuza Runs 5.281/246.03 Psn # 9
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 5.058/290.69 Psn # 3

against the most recent number one qualifier Ron Capps. Capps
keeps the candles lit all the way through the quarter-mile for
the number five spot. Skuza loses power just before the 900

This is one of those weird races. Wilkerson's car

up too much, as it lost traction and then popped the blower.
Kenji is showing consistency as he runs another 5.11.

Sunday's 1st Round

BRAINERD, MN - RIS - Results of round 1 eliminations in Funny Car at the 16th annual Champion Auto Stores Nationals:

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Randy Anderson 0.583 5.015 271.73
 (L) Freddie Neely 0.498 5.123 291.82

11:43 AM We did not see the big numbers that we
expected in Top Fuel, but we did see some upsets. We will
see what Funny Car has in store for us here. Neely gets
the big hole shot and is streaking for then win, but Randy
has that Larry Frazier power to run him down and pass him
right around the 1000 foot mark. He then started mixing up
some cylinders right in the lights, but holds on for the
win.

 (W) Ron Capps 0.471 5.051 307.27
 (L) Al Hofmann 0.509 11.344 74.12

Capps gets the starting line advantage and drives it on
through for his third 5.05 of the weekend, while Hofmann
continues to struggle in getting the power to the track.
He was up in smoke by the 100 foot mark.

 (W) Whit Bazemore 0.531 4.928 310.66
 (L) Mark Oswald 0.579 10.609 59.12

Bazemore shows that yesterday was no fluke, as he gave
the big Brainerd crowd and the rest of the funny car
pilots a lesson on how to lay down a perfect pass in the
fuel coupes. Oswald blazes the tires right off the starting
line.

 (W) Tony Pedregon 0.500 5.027 293.44
 (L) Tom Hoover 0.511 5.043 308.11

The clouds have the complete track covered now, just
like the doctor order, as to not get too much heat in the
track. Tom Hoover gives the Castrol team everything they want
for this drag race, as this is one of the fastest passes
for a runner-up. Tony got the jump on the starting line
and was just barely able to hold off Hoover.

 (W) John Force 0.536 4.967 311.63
 (L) Tim Wilkerson 0.526 5.633 190.92

Wilkerson smokes the tires right off the starting
line, but pedals it and then right around half-track he
starts to mix up the cylinders, but the biggest
problem for Wilkerson was in the other lane, as Force lays
down his quickest pass of the weekend, and shows Whit he is
ready to play.

 (W) Del Worsham 0.503 11.689 25.34
 (L) Dean Skuza 0.477 6.944 154.26

This is a wild race here, as Worsham has problems
right of the starting line, and puts oil out on the track.
He will coast and get to watch the action. The action is
Skuza as he loses traction, pedals it, then goes up in
smoke again, and he pedals it again, and he does not see
Worsham so he stays in the throttle, and then the car makes
a hard move to the right and he crosses the centerline
around the 1000 foot mark. This will give Worsham the win,
and we are down for clean-up.`

 (W) Chuck Etchells 0.525 5.118 299.20
 (L) Kenji Okazaki 0.518 9.874 87.86

We are back from a long clean-up. The sun is back out
and shinning down on the track. Kenji gets the jump on
the starting line, but then starts to spin the tires and is
off the throttle. Etchells loses traction about the 400
foot mark and pedals it once and then motors on through
for the win.

 (W) Gary Densham 0.503 5.287 216.13
 (L) Cruz Pedregon 0.499 8.076 107.19

Cruz is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle
and stays with it trying to drive through it, but no luck.
Densham has a wisp of smoke off the tires at half track,
but stays with it and then throws a rod around the 900
foot mark, but holds on to win. That is it for Funny Car
with Bazemore having lane choice over Densham, Capps over
Worsham, Pedregon over Etchells, and Force over Anderson.

FUNNY CAR

Sunday's 2nd Round

&127;BRAINERD, MN - RIS - Results of round 2 eliminations in Funny Car at the 16th annual Champion Auto Stores Nationals:

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Ron Capps 0.491 5.152 301.40
 (L) Del Worsham 0.463 5.240 291.07

2:27 PM The big numbers went away in Top Fuel, so we
will see what the fuel coupes have for us. This was a
really good drag race until half track, but then Roland Leong's
power kicks in and Capps just drives away for the win.

 (W) Tony Pedregon 0.481 5.018 307.06
 (L) Chuck Etchells 0.528 5.010 307.37

This is a great drag race as they are glued together
all the way through the quarter-mile. Tony wins it on a
hole shot.

 (W) Gary Densham 0.519 5.071 295.66
 (L) Whit Bazemore 0.519 6.085 233.46

They leave together, but Whit loses traction and he
pedals it, but is up in smoke again. He attempts to drive
through, but has no luck, and smoked'em all the way
through the quarter-mile. Densham does what he had to do,
ran his own drag race. He knows how to race at this track,
as he will have a chance to get to the finals for the third
time in four years.

 (W) John Force 0.512 5.716 252.38
 (L) Randy Anderson 0.557 6.457 190.79

Both cars are up in smoke at the same time, about 150
feet down track. They both pedal it and go up in smoke
again by 300 feet, they repeat it, and John does it better
than Randy, but then starts to dropping oil all
over the track. He gets close to the center-line, but
saves it for the win, but then lights it up with a quick
little fire just past the finish line. Force will give up
lane choice to Tony, and Densham has lane choice over Capps.

Sunday's 3rd Round

BRAINERD, MN - RIS - Results of round 3 eliminations in Funny Car at the 16th annual Champion Auto Stores Nationals:

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Ron Capps 0.476 5.183 261.62
 (L) Gary Densham 0.482 9.740 90.63

Capps gets the jump off the starting line and
stretches it out as Densham has problems by the 100 foot
mark. This will be Capps third final round in the
Copenhagen Chevy Camaro.

 (W) John Force 0.501 5.001 306.12
 (L) Tony Pedregon 0.455 5.526 208.28

It is Castrol against Castrol, and Tony gets the jump
on the starting line, but then has problems about half track
and slows to his slowest pass of the weekend. The Boss
will go to the final, and this will be John's first final
since Dallas back in May. Force will have lane choice.

FUNNY CAR

Sunday's Fth Round

BRAINERD, MN - RIS - Results of final round eliminations in Funny Car at the 16th annual Champion Auto Stores Nationals:

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) John Force 0.484 4.974 310.55
 (L) Ron Capps 0.733 28.451 33.03

Force's team come blazing around the corner with the
car in tow, apparently using all the allotted to get the
Castrol machine back together. The clouds have move back
over the track and this should be good drag race. Well it
should've been, but it was not the light turned green and
the Copenhagen car did not move, as John went straight down
the main street for his first win since February in
Phoenix. This is John's 64th win in 100 round finals, and
his fourth straight win here in Brainerd. The word is
that Capps throttle linkage broke.
