Fuelers to be included in '64 Winternationals

Reprinted from the November 15, 1963 issue of National DRAGSTER

Officials of NHRA announced today that Fuel classes will be included as part of the 4th annual Winternationals Championship Drag Races at Pomona, next February. Under the new rules for 1964, a total of three Fuel classes will be in effect; AA/FD, A/FD, and B/FD, Class breaks for these all-out categories, based on a car's weight per cubic inches of engine displacement, are as follows: AA/FD unblown, 2 to 2.49 lbs./c.i.; AA/FD blown, 2.53.99 lbs./c.i.; A/FD unblown, 2.53.99 lbs./c.i.; A/FD blown, 45.5 lbs./c.i.; B/FD blown, 5.6 lbs./c.i. and over.

Requirements for fuelers are the same as those defined for the gas dragsters, with fire protection suits for drivers mandatory.

The Fuel classes will thus be a major part of the '64 Winternationals drag racing program, complete with class and Eliminator run offs. Indications are that a large number of contestants will be entered, due to early announcement of these classes. Entry fee is $20.00, which includes admission and pit passes for owner and driver at the event, and official entry reservation forms can be obtained by writing to NHRA headquarters, 1171 N. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles, Calif. 90029.

Fuel records are also slated for the Winternationals agenda, which officially opens the National Records season for drag racing.
